Grant Matheson, 79, of Keosauqua died Saturday at 11:00 p.m. of burns he had received Friday evening when his pipe ignited his clothing.
A semi-invalid, Mr. Matheson was in a wheelchair at his home when the accident occurred. His wife extinguished the fire and he was taken to the county Memorial hospital where death occurred.
He was born Oct. 15, 1876, near Bonaparte, the son of Alexander and Jane Stevenson Matheson, and was the last of their family of six. He was married Jan. 8, 1914, to May Wiley of Keosauqua. He retired from farming about five years ago.
Besides his wife he leaves a son Don of Keosauqua and a grandson.
The funeral was held Tuesday at the Burnett-Catcott funeral home. The Rev. J.C. Austin was in charge. Burial was in Fellows cemetery at Keosauqua
