LCDR Jack Andrew Page (U.S. Navy Ret.), 86, of Pensacola, died October 30, 2014 with his daughter Becky by his side. He was born in Starkville, MS on Christmas Day in 1927 to Martha Carpenter Page and John Curtis Page. He grew up in Starkville and graduated from Mississippi State University. Jack was a career officer, pilot, and flight instructor in the United States Navy and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He developed a love of aviation as a young boy, obtaining his pilot's license as a teenager even before his driver's license. While a student at MSU, Jack met his wife, Gladys, a student at Mississippi State College for Women, on a blind date. They married in 1952 while Jack was a Navy flight student in Pensacola.

Jack completed his flight training in Pensacola and was later stationed at Ellyson Field when he retired from the Navy in 1973. He and Gladys settled in Pensacola after twenty years of moving around the country and the world, including such locations as Alaska and Morroco. Navy life allowed the family to travel extensively throughout northern Africa and Europe. After his retirement from the Navy, Jack worked as a private flight instructor in Pensacola.

Jack was one of the first volunteers at the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Pensacola NAS, where he proudly served as a tour guide and division head in the security department for over 25 years. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Pensacola, where he previously served as a deacon and head usher. A consummate southern gentleman, he dearly loved the Lord, his family, and his country. Jack was a kind, quiet, and unassuming man. At the same time, he was tougher than a pine knot, as evidenced by his surviving a deadly plane crash in 1986. A tremendously devoted parent, grandparent, and friend, Jack was always first in line to lend a helping hand.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Gladys Seal Page, in 2012; his daughter, Janet Page Slavin, in August 2014; and brothers, Curtis Page and Mervyn Smith.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughter, Becky Packard (Doug) of Lake Mary, FL; son-in-law, Mike Slavin of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Katie Scarborough (Brent) of Spring, TX, Douglas Packard of Nashville, TN, Laura Packard of Lake Mary, FL and Courtney Slavin of Houston, TX; great-grandsons, Jack and Luke Scarborough of Spring, TX; step-grandchildren, Layne Slavin of Houston, TX, Robyn Bagley of Austin, TX, and Meg Sandell of Waco, TX and their families; nephews, Mike Seal and Mark Seal of San Antonio, TX, Davis Smith of Germantown, TN and Gary Smith of Roswell, GA; niece, Marilyn Page Pounders of Tupelo, MS; sister-in-law, Marilee Seal of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Jane Owens of Starkville, MS; and many dear friends from Azalea Trace, the Navy years, First Baptist Church of Pensacola, and the Naval Aviation Museum.

Visitation will be held 12:00noon until the Funeral Service to begin at 1:00pm Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014 in Pleitz Chapel at First Baptist Church of Pensacola with Dr. Barry Howard officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00pm at Barrancas National Cemetery at Pensacola NAS with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Pensacola, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, The Wounded Warriors Project, or a charity of your choice .

Jack, your presence and influence will always be felt in our lives. We wish you Godspeed, and may you always have a tailwind on your Heavenly journey!
