Ida May Shaffer was the daughter of Lamon H. Shaffer (1839-1898) and Mary E. Houck (1853-1907). She married Mahlon Huston Brown 11 May 1893 in Benton Co, IA. They were parents of 3 children, Elsie May Brown ( 1894-1957) Anna Kathryn Brown (1896-1974) and Roy Brown "Long" (May1901-1918). Mahlon died 6 Dec 1901.
Ida married James Henry Long 26 April 1902. They had a son Leslie Long (1904-1967) and Eva Lucille Long (1905-19972). James Henry Long raised all the children as his own with Roy adopting the last name of Long.
