Halifax aircraft #LW 500 was shot down by a German flak ship off Dieppe, France during a trip to Nuremberg, Germany. Six RAF members of the crew were also killed. This was P/O Burke’s fourth operation and his was one of 108 Allied aircraft lost this night. Pilot Officer Pilot Burke has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Runnymede War Memorial, Englefield Green, Egham, Surrey, England.
