His death was reported on page 3 of the “The Daily Light,” Wednesday 27 Apr 1898:
"Died of Gangrene - John F Green aged 72 years, died in the city hospital this morning. Deceased had lived in San Antonio 25 years. The remains were removed to his late residence, corner of East Commerce and Water Street. Deceased had tried to destroy a corn by means of poison, which resulted in gangrene of the foot."
