James E. “Jim” Coleman, 89, of Effingham, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham, with military rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Golden Circle Nutrition Program or donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com
Jim was born on February 24, 1925 in Findlay, IL, the son of Charles E. and Maudie (Foster) Coleman. He married Teresa (Moran) Brown on June 25, 1955 in Effingham.
He retired in 1987 after 35 years with the State Health Department as a milk inspector. He was a WW II veteran, serving in the United States Navy in the Philippines. He was a lifetime member of the Effingham V.F.W. 1769. Jim was a member of several saddle clubs; Missouri Fox Trotting Association; Texas Longhorn Association and Effingham Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Teresa; daughters, Susan (Everett, deceased) Grandfield of Decatur, Carol (Scott) Silliman of Springfield, Jane (David) Finley of Effingham; son, Bill (Mary Ann) Brown of Munford, TN; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and brothers, Walter Coleman of Mt. Zion and Lewis Coleman of Findlay.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
