John Thomas Dabney, 99 of Kirksville passed away Saturday, August 16, 2003 at Kirksville Residential Care in Kirksville.

The son of David and Sarah Patterson Dabney, he was born February 7, 1904 in Kirksville. In January 1923 in Kirksville, Missouri, Tom was united in marriage to Nellie R. Dorman who preceded him in death on March 27, 1996.

His parents, one son, Tom Dabney, two daughters, Dorothy Johnson and Jean Kriner, two grandsons, Tom and Larry Kriner, also preceded Tom in death.

Surviving are one grandson, David Thomas Dabney of Canada; one great-granddaughter, Tammy Kriner of Kansas City, MO; one daughter-in-law, Margie Dabney of Kirksville; two step-grandchildren, Randy Crowder of Auxvasse, MO, Donna Sapinski of Geneso, IL, seven step-great-grandchildren and eight step-great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Dabney was employed by the Kirksville city gas company, the Dan Booth Grocery Store for 11 years, Chester Bell electric from 1947 to 1962, and from 1963-1972 he worked for Kirksville State Teachers College as the head electrician.

Tom was a bowler for many years and was inducted into the Kirksville Bowling Hall of Fame. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and making mats on a loom and giving them to friends.

Tom was a past member of the Kirksville Moose Lodge and attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday (August 19, 2003) at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville with Pastor Ralph Wheeler officiating. Donald Cooper, organist and Twyla Jones, soloist will provide music selections "One Day At A Time" and "In The Garden". Interment will follow the service at Highland Park Cemetery, in Kirksville, MO.

Pallbearers will be Roger Kellison, A.J. Drost, Donald Cooper, Dr. Richard Valuck and Tom Hueber.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (August 19, 2003) from 2:00 until the time of service in the chapel of the Travis-Noe Funeral Home.
