She moved to Anchorage in 1967, then to Valdez, Alaska from 1969-2002 and back to Anchorage in 2002. Emily was a longtime business owner of several local businesses in Anchorage and Valdez, including the Hobby Hut and Kellie's Floral, until she retired in 1955.

She was affiliated with the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Elks Lodge, was a former chairwoman of the Salvation Army in Valdez and was a board member for the Valdez Senior Center.

Emily loved knitting and crocheting and enjoyed making sweaters and hats for the babies born at Valdez Community Hospital. She also taught knitting classes at the Hobby Hut for years.

Emily was a massive animal lover. Her greatest passion by far was being a grandmother. Her family wrote, "Emily will be most remembered for her strength, drive, honesty and compassion for others. She worked very hard and was always quick to help those in need. Her New York spunk will be greatly missed. After all, like Frank Sinatra said, she did it her way."

Survivors include one son and spouse, 3 daughters and spouses, 2 grandsons and spouse, 2 granddaughters and spouse, 2 great grandsons, and her dog.

She was preceded in death by her son Robert Bohlman, and husband Gilbert.
