Shelly James Martin, 97, a native and resident of Chauvin, died at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006.

Visitation will be from 4 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Chauvin. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by three daughters, Evelinna Robinett of Houma, Ethel Links and husband, Jim, of Golden Meadow, and Gardline M. Belanger and husband, Royce, of Chauvin; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two adopted grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia Authement Martin; his parents, Louie Martin and Virginia Chauvin Martin; one grandson, Don Bergeron; one great-granddaughter, Jennifer Boudreaux Angelette; one son-in-law, Dennis Robinett; seven brothers, William "Bill" Martin, Isreal Martin, Calvin Martin, Charlie Martin (twin), Eddie Martin, Lawrence Martin and Davis Martin; and three sisters, Mae Martin Hebert, Felicia Martin Lapeyrouse and Nora Martin Chauvin.

He was retired owner of Crew Boats and was a fur trapper and a ship builder for Delta Shipyard in New Orleans. He was the constable in Chauvin and was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved life at his camp. He called his camp "Cest La Vie". It was his home for the winter to hunt and summer to fish and entertain.

He loved life to the fullest right to the end. He will be missed, God Bless Him.

He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
