George Bowers Pioneer Resident of McKean Passes Away.

Mr. George Bowers, who was born in Green County, Penn., July 2, 1816, died at the home of his son, Casper Bowers, one mile east of Highwater, on January 31, 1900, at the age of 83 years.

Mr. Bowers had been in the enjoyment of fairly good health and was as well as usual when he retired at nine o'clock Tuesday evening. When called the following morning he failed to respond and on examination was found to have passed from life to death.

Since 1826 Mr. Bowers has been a resident of McKean township. He was united in marriage to Sophia Snare in 1837. Of this union four children were born, two of whom, Casper and Eliza survive. In early life he united with the Christian church at Highwater, of which he was a faithful member, but owing to ill health and declining years has been unable to attend.

Besides a host of friends, he leaves three brothers and two sisters to mourn his death.

The funeral was held at the residence of his son, Feb. 2, 1900, the Rev. Mr. Lowe officiating. Interment was made in the Bowers cemetery, one mile north of Highwater.
