Edwin Lewis 'Ned' Manter passed away peacefully at his home on February 11, 2012 with his beloved dog Priscilla by his side.
Ned was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 24th, 1951, to Elizabeth and Edwin Manter. After graduating from Lexington High School in 1970, Ned attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute where he pursued a degree in Oceanography/Marine Biology.
After graduating from SMVTI, Ned joined Texas Instruments where he studied the impact of industrial pollution on striped bass population and migration. Ned's interest in conservation combined with his creativity led him to a career as a nature photographer/artist. Ned owned his own business ‘Creative Camera Concepts' located on Cape Cod. Ned loved the Cape and drew much of his inspiration from the Ashumet Holly Reservation, the Cape Beaches and ‘Four Ponds' in Pocasset.
Ned was also an avid gardener and environmentalist, often lovingly transplanting Holly seedlings from his parent's yard to a location where they would thrive. Ned was an integral part of the Cape Cod artist community and drew much enjoyment and satisfaction from supporting other artists and photographing their work.
Ned is survived by his parents, Edwin and Elizabeth Manter of Falmouth, MA, brother Gary Manter and his wife Cheryl Elkins of Hamilton, Ma, Sister Nancy Botte and her husband Ernie Botte of Nottingham, NH, sister Laurie Donnellan and her husband Paul Donnellan of York, Maine. Also survived by nephews Justin Donnellan, Corey Donnellan, Matthew Manter and a niece Mariah Manter.
Relatives and friends will honor Ned and celebrate his life by gathering at Cataumet Arts Center, 76 Scraggy Neck Rd, Cataumet, MA 02534 On Saturday, March 3, from 1PM to 4PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Joslin Diabetes Center (in memory of Ned Manter) One Joslin Place, Suite 754 Boston, MA 02215.
