Capt Benjamin is the son of Joshua Bradford and Sarah Ann Trott. He married the daughter of William Cookson and Ann Doten on 20 May 1846 in St. Amdrews Parish. Mary Helen Cookson was his first wife and they have six children before she passed on:

From the St. Croix Courier on 4 Jan 1877..........

" A telegram was received here on Thursday last by Messrs G.D.King & Sons, announcing the abandonment at sea of the "W.T.King"on her passage for the West Indies to New York. It also announced the death of Chief Officer Capt. Bradford which occurred before the abandonment took place. Capt Bradford having died of sickness and exposure. The Capt leaves a wife and several children."
