Imogene Anna Cummins

Born August 24, 1930 in Milford, Nebraska My parents were living with my Great Aunt Ella Shaw, Grandma Cummings was her sister and was there for my birth. At three weeks we moved to Morrowville, Kansas where Grandma Cummings lived.

My parents and brother John Orval, called Jack, July 28, 1928, and I lived in several homes during this time as Dad ran a grocery store.

In 1933 we moved to Wichita Falls, Texas where Dad worked for the Shell Oil Company.

In 1936 I started school in the first grade. 1937 we moved to New Roads, LA where Dad worked on the pipeline.

Mom, Jack and I moved to Aunt May and Uncle Bill Elliott on a farm between Haddam and Morrowville, Kansas before Christmas. We attended Blocker Country School for a couple of months (2nd grade).

Our next move was to Houston, Texas Dad drove a pipe truck for Shell Oil. We were there for my 3rd and 4th grade.

Patricia Louise was born October 14, 1938.

In the summer of 1939 we moved back to Morrowville. Dad began farming.

My 5th grade of school I lived with Uncle Bill and Aunt May and attended Blocker. 6th grade was in Morrowville for a couple of months before we moved to a farm at Inavale, Nebraska where the folks shucked corn. We attended a county school that taught either odd or even grades so was again in 5th grade.

December we moved to Emporia, Kansas where Dad was again on the pipeline. School began back in the 6th grade. In April we moved to La Monte, Missouri until the school year ended. That summer found us back in Morrowville on to Columbia, Mo, Little Rock, Ark, and Elmo, Mo. When school started, 7th grade in Jr H.S. we were in Searcy Ark. for several weeks then on to Arkadelphia, Ark. until Christmas.

We lived in Houston, Tx and was enrolled in school for the two weeks before we moved back to Grandma (Anna Cora Gray Rose - 57588853 ) and Grandpa Rose (Warren G. Rose - 57588870 )farm between Haddam and Morrowville, Ks.

Grandpa Rose died that spring and Grandma Rose moved to Idaho to live with her son Orval Rose. The rest of the 7th and 8th grade were spent at Blocker Country School. Jack and I boarded out in Morrowville when I began my freshman year in H.S. Due to scarlet fever I was out of school from December until April.

Fall found us in York, Ne for the beginning of my sophomore year.

January we moved to Fairmont, Ne when school was out to to were on a farm at Exeter, Ne for the summer.

In the fall we moved to Fairbury, Nebraska where I went through my junior and senior year of school. During the summer between we went to Oregon and lived in a lumber camp above Richland.

During my school years I had attended 29 grade schools and 5 high schools. The homes we lived in were numerous and on various levels from lovely homes to tourist camps along the way.

At the time of graduation we were living in the Merchants Hotel in Fairbury. The folks left the day after graduation and my home became one small hotel room. In August I moved into the home and Ralph and Polly Smart with Dixie and her little sister Vonnie Jo.

September Dixie and I enrolled in Mary Lanning School of nursing in Hastings, Ne.

The first of December I left school and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska worked at Golds dept store until after Christmas and went to Cleveland, Ok to see my parents. When mom and Pat drove me back as far as Grandma Rose farm, your father (Ralph Baldwin) came down and gave me an engagement ring.

Back in Lincoln, found a one room apt. and went to work for the tele Co.

On March 5th your father and I were married and continued to live for several months in the one room apt.

During all the years of moving to various places are many memories of happy times as well(sic) as sad.

Dad would always chase on to each job with high expectations and somehow the drinks from the ever present bottle would win out and on we would travel.

Dad had so many good qualities and was well liked by all who knew him and worked with him.

Mom worked hard with whatever she had to work with, always finding a way, we were never without a clean home and food.

Jack finished his junior year at Morrowville and joined the Navy.

Pat being 8 years younger was always a small ray of sunshine.
