Young Life Ended
A Patient and Cheerful Sufferer Summoned to Her Last Resting Place.
Miss Elsie Lombard, familiar to nearly every citizen in Plainview, was called to the Great Beyond on Monday morning after an illness of about a week.
Deceased was born in Plainview township July 7, 1884, and has made her home in this village the greater part of her life. Her lot has been one of great affliction, she having been a cripple the greater part of her life, yet she has been known to all as the girl of a cheerful disposition. Her trials and afflictions she has borne throughout her life in such a cheerful and pleasing manner, that it could not but be noticed by all.
The following is contributed by a close friend, whose words are voiced by all:
Miss Elsie M. Lombard passed from the home of her grandmother, Mrs. John Hunter, to the Home Beautiful at about 6:30 Monday morning, April 13, 1908, her age being 23 years, 9 months and 12 days. She united with the Church of Christ October 29, 1904 and ever remained steadfast in the Christian life, and clung to the hope which reaches beyond this life, which was so filled with suffering for her. She often spoke of the time when she would be released from the pain that she endured with such sweet patience.
Her life has spoken and will continue to speak to us in no uncertain sound, teaching us cheerfulness, love and patience. She was known to us all as Elsie, the cheerful girl who brought sunshine into every home she visited, who greeted everyone with smiles and words of cheer, even when her own heart was sad and her body racked with pain. She has not been able to walk a step without her crutches for four years and could not go any distance without the wheel chair, yet with all these afflictions she never gave up and accomplished a great deal in work of various kinds and was ever ready to give assistance as best she could to everyone. She gained friends everywhere and from all ages, especially did she gain the hearts of the children and wherever she was the little ones would seek her company. The older ones too, even those whose heads are silvered o'er found enjoyment in her presence. Her many friends will miss her more than words can express but will feel their loss is but happiness and joy to her. But her sweet memory will live with us and be a brightness in our lives forever. The church will miss her, her friends and relatives will feel that a beam of sunshine is lost to them, but we could not wish to call her back to suffer more. The beautiful floral tributes and expressions of sympathy all show the high esteem in which she was held by one and all.
Mrs. Hannah Lombard of Todd County, arrived Wednesday to be present at the funeral.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev Hughes officiating and interment made in Greenwood cemetery.

GOD KNOWS BEST
If we could ajar the gates of life
and stand within and see our Elsie there,
we could interpret what is life
and for each mystery find a key.
But not today. Then be content grieved hearts,
God's plans like lilies pure and white unfold
We must tear the closed shut leaves apart
There will reveal the calyxes of gold.
And if thro patient toil we reach the land,
Where her poor tired feet do rest
Then we shall clearly know and understand
I think that we will say God knew the best.
So in bidding farewell to our Elsie
we can but say:
Though thy presence was endearing
Though thy absence we deplore
At the Saviour's bright appearing
We shall meet to part no more.
