Two young area men were killed in separate auto accidents early Sunday morning [3/4/1973] - one heading home after a Haysi, Va., band engagement and the other while riding with a carload of friends.

Dead are Danny Miner, 17, of 6117 Lone Star Road and Allen Carroll Lane, 19, of Route 1, Gate City.

Miner was pronounced dead on arrival at Holston Valley Community Hospital Sunday morning after the accident on Reservoir Road.

According to Sullivan County Deputy Frank Ryan, who investigated, Miner was a passenger in a car driven by Audie Light, 17, Rt. 6, Rogersville.

Ryan said the car was traveling toward Blairs Gap at a high rate of speed when Light evidently lost control of the car on a curve."

Miner was born in Sullivan County, and was a junior in Sullivan West High School. He attended Hill Top Mission Church.

Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Miner of the home; three sisters, Rebecca Jean, Karen and Christy Miner all of the home; one brother, Johnny Miner of the home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Barrett of Kingsport; paternal grandfather, Adam Miner of Rogersville.
