John Stephen Terhes

John Stephen Terhes, 76, of Eugene died at home on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 because of complications from a recent stroke.

John will be remembered for his quick wit, love of nature, epic Christmas letters, never ending gumballs for this grandchildren and tender heart. He enjoyed the New York Yankees, feeding birds and squirrels, walking his Westies (Lilly and Jack), and spending time with family and friends.

Born December 16, 1937 in Lorain, Ohio to John and Hazel (Olah) Terhes, he graduated from Baldwin Wallace College and received a Masters at Kent State. He previously was police officer and an insurance adjuster. He married Carol Ann Pecenka on August 18, 1967. They made their home in Amherst, Ohio until moving to South Salem where he retired as an English Instructor at Chemeketa Community College. He was well known for his quirky sense of humor and his high expectations of students.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Eugene, daughter, Christine (Scott) Guenther, grand children Elsie and Evan of Silverton; son, Dr. John (Amanda) Tehres, grandchildren Perrin and John Lincoln of Eugene; brother, Jerry (Eileen) Terhes of Salem.
