Edith's mother died when Edith was 8 months old. Since her father was not able to work, and take care of her, She was raised by her Great Aunt Philena (Potter) Woodard and her husband, Dr. Alonzo B. Woodard. She was brought up as a Seventh Day Baptist in Alfred, NY, and became a staunch Wesleyan after marrying George Stevenson. She had a lovely voice, and toured with a quartet to many churches and revival meetings. In later years, she hand wrote an autobiography, and left it with her daughter, Mildred Louise (Stevenson) Fero. Mildred Fero is the mother-in-law of this author. I have the autobiography and many of the family photo albums.

Edith's first marriage was to Frank Walrath, in 1891. This ended in divorce in 1903.
