Angela Briefs Carpenter passed away on January 17, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Freiburg, Germany, on February 14, 1923. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1934 where they settled in Maryland. In 1945, she married Frank G. Carpenter to whom she was happily married for 61 years. They had 6 children. In 1963, Frank and Angela moved the family to New Orleans, Louisiana to start a new career in the sugar industry. There they raised their children and gathered a large circle of friends based on church, family, and good food. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina destroyed their home. They escaped with their cat only hours before the storm hit. For the past 2 years, Angela has resided at Priddy Manor in King, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank and daughter Louise, her parents, and brothers. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Clancy, her children, Christel Dawkins (Frank), Bernard Carpenter (Cathy), Therese Kennedy (Patrick), Pauline Dear (Peter), and Joel Carpenter (Frank Douai). She also has eight grandchildren Claire and Will Dawkins, Matthew, Sara, and Evan Carpenter, Ryan, Michael, and Colin Kennedy. She has four great-grandchildren, Olive Carpenter, Tyler and Bennett Scott, and Gwynn Carpenter. The funeral will be handled by Hayworth Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Visitation will be at Hayworth Miller on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:00. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 105 Good Shepherd Dr., in King on Friday, January 20th at 10:30 a.m with Father Lawrence Heiney officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The family wishes to offer a special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Priddy Manor.
