She was born on April 26, 1921 in Prospect, Giles County, Tennessee to Cleveland W. Denman and George Ethyl Reed Denman; She spent a happy childhood in Fairfield, Alabama, and enjoyed memorable Summer vacations at her grandparents’ home in rural Prospect, Tennessee. She was a proud graduate of Fairfield High School where she was salutatorian of her class. She was also a graduate of Florence State College (now the University of North Alabama), where she was an honors student.

Following graduation, Dot worked with the Birmingham office of the U. S. Federal Bureau of Investigation. While at the F.B.I. she met Thomas F. Kellerman, a young special agent on assignment from Louisville. They married on March 29, 1944 in Birmingham. Following Tom’s service in the U. S. Army in post-war Japan, they moved to the Louisville Highlands area in 1946. They later lived in Crescent Hill and St. Matthews. They also lived in Ashland and Frankfort, Kentucky during the 1960’s and 1970’s, returning to St. Matthews in 1974. Thomas died in 1996. Dot later moved to the Forum at Brookside Senior Living Community in Middletown, where she and her sister, Elizabeth Reed Denman lived together until Betsy’s death in 2013, and Dot continued to live until her death.

Dot was gracious, thoughtful, resourceful, candid and independent minded. She made many close friends in the various places that she lived, keeping in contact with many through decades of her life. She was an avid reader and gardener, and she was an enthusiast of wildflowers and birds. She enjoyed traveling with her sister with notable trips through the years to Africa, Australia and the South Pacific, the Mediterranean, Mexico and Central America.

Dot was a volunteer at the Eline Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library. She was a member of the St. Matthews United Methodist Church, and the University of North Alabama Alumni Association.

Dot was predeceased by her parents and sister.

She is survived by her son, Robert W. Kellerman (Sonja), and grandchildren R. Lucas Kellerman and Sara Elizabeth Kellerman.

The body will be cremated, as Dot wished. Visitation will be 1-4 pm Monday at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with a brief memorial service at the funeral home for friends and family following visitation. The remains will be interred at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama.
