Mark Leon Casey, 53, of Deer, Arkansas, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, October 31, 2014 after a battle with metastatic melanoma.

Visitation will be held at Holt Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 3, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral service will be at Crossroads Community Church at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Rev. Johnny Walters will officiate. Burial will be at Wayton Cemetery, in Newton County. Pallbearers will be Roger Garner, Craig Taylor, Brent Casey, Kyle Lasater, Justin Villines, and Trent Daniels. Honorary pallbearers include L.C. Casey, Frank Barksdale, Ron Hubbard, and Rick Echols.

The son of L.C. and Betty (Sharp) Casey was born in Visalia, CA on September 24, 1961. Mark came to Newton County in the late 80’s to visit with his family in the area. His favorite quotes about himself were that he was a “City boy that grew into a Mountain Man” and “it is what it is”. He started his career at Claridge, in Harrison, where he worked for over 20 years until his diagnosis of metastatic melanoma.

Mark was a loving husband, father, son, grandpa, brother, and friend. He was very much loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, family, and his many friends over the years. He was always willing to give the shirt off his back to help any friend, family member, or stranger with anything they needed. The true essence of his life was that he loved his wife, daughters, son, and family; he loved his friends and was always there when needed. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be forever missed by his family and everyone that knew him. We cherished his loving spirit.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Kathy Casey and his grandparents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Casey; children, Sarah Casey, of Russellville, Jodi Bryant, of Harrison, and Justin Villines, of Little Rock; his parents, L.C. and Betty Casey, of Deer; grandchildren, Addison and Kaylee Bryant; a brother, Terry Casey; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mark's name to the Highlands Oncology Group, 3232 N Northhills Blvd, Fayetteville, AR. They are partnered with Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) where he received amazing care and would want to advance the research in Arkansas and give greater access to care for Arkansan’s that cannot afford treatment and to find a cure for melanoma and breast cancer.
