Roselle S. Ward founded the Huron County Humane Society in 1953, 89, died Monday at Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
As a young woman in Cleveland, the former Roselle Sieler pursued a singing career. She was a featured vocalist with big bands that visited the area. Guy Lombardo, Louis Armstrong and Sammy Kaye were among the famous bandleaders with whom she shared the stage.
As a radio pioneer, Mrs. Ward at one time had her own program on WHK radio. She also taught dance classes in the Hippodrome Building in Cleveland.
She was born in Springfield, OH, and spent her early years in Cleveland. She graduated from Hathaway Brown School.
Since 1945, Mrs. Ward had lived in the New London area. She also had lived in Wadsworth.
Mrs. Ward was a member of Fitchville Church of Christ and Fitchville United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Norman B, died in 1962. Her two children, Elizabeth Coburn and William Ward, also are deceased. There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be at 11 am tomorrow at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, OH.
