The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Alfred G. Lewis (MCSN: 341111), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Scout of Company B, First Battalion, Second Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Marianas Islands, 4 July 1944. Discovering an enemy concentration forward of the lines, Private First Class Lewis braved intense grenade and rifle fire to rout the concentration and annihilate eight of the enemy before sustaining serious wounds. By his skill and aggressive fighting spirit, Private First Class Lewis contributed materially to the advance of his company, and his devotion to duty upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Killed in a car accident in Pine Bluff, ARK, when he and his son, Donald, were going on a fishing trip.
