George Faul served in Company D. 10th Illinois Cavalry in the Civil War.

George was a resident of Chicago where he enlisted on Sep. 24, 1861 for 3 years. He was described as 24 years old 5' 8" tall with brown hair, hazel eyes, and light complexion. He was mustered into Company D. 10th Illinois Cavalry on Nov 25, 1861. He was mustered out on Dec 30, 1864 at the expiration of his enlistment.

George received an Army Invalid Pension beginning on July 14, 1890 and following his death his 2nd wife Emily R. Faul received an Army Widows Pension. At that time she was residing at 369 N. Webster Ave., Jacksonville.

In the 1910 census of Jacksonville, IL., George is listed as 70 years old living with his wife Mary E. 70 and daughter Mary E. 28.

In the 1920 census of Jacksonville, IL George is listed as 80 years old, living with his wife Emily 69, and daughter Ada M. Bancroft 48.

George died on Aug 4, 1924 and was buried at East Jacksonville Cemetery on Aug 7, 1924. On Nov 22, 1927 a government headstone inscribed George Faul 10th Illinois Cavalry was shipped to the cemetery to mark George's grave.
