The death of Mrs. Rachel Ann (Buzard) Miller, wife of the late John R. Miller, occurred last Saturday, April 26, 1919, following an illness of some months which gradually overcame her natural vigor and good health until she quietly slept away, her spirit returning to God who gave it. Mrs. Miller was a native of Clarion county being born in Millcreek township on August 12, 1848, not far from Sigel in Jefferson county, the daughter of James and Mary Buzard, well known and highly esteemed early settlers in that section. In May 1867, she was united in marriage with J.R. Miller. For some time after their marriage Mr. Miller worked in the lumber woods and they shared the usual hardships and advantages of that life. But in a few years they removed to Clarion. After some years here in the midst of relatives and friends they decided to remove to Brookville, where Mr. Miller engaged in merchandising, being the head of the grocery and provision firm of Miller & Stephens, which did quite a successful business for some years, when they sold their store and removed to Brockwayville where the Miller family resided until, a few years ago, Mr. Miller died and three years ago Mrs. Miller and her daughter, Miss Lou Miller, established their home in Clarion. Mrs. Miller was the mother of five children, one of whom, Mrs. S.L. Pickens, preceded her to the world beyond. The four surviving children are: R.E. Miller, Brookville; Miss Lou Miller, Clarion; Mrs. W.A. Brown, Wilkes-Barre, and Mrs. W.T. Clarke, Bradford. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Jack Fisher, Shippenville, and three brothers, Isaac Buzard, Limestone; James M. Buzard, Strattanville, and Joseph Buzard, Eldred township, Jefferson county. Also by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The deceased was a warm-hearted true, good woman, a loving wife and mother, and a noble Christian neighbor and friend. She was a member of the Methodist church for twenty seven years and active in the work of the church, especially in Brockwayville, and as long as her health permitted. The funeral service was held at her late home on Liberty Street, at 2 o'clock last Tuesday with her pastor, the Rev. AC. Locke, of the First Methodist Church of Clarion, in charge, and the interment followed in Clarion cemetery. The bereaved family and friends have the sympathy of all.
