Sally Whiteside Manahan

Sally Whiteside Manahan passed away peacefully in Austin, TX, on October 17, 2014, while in the care of her children, Jason and Megan Manahan.

Born in Amarillo, TX, she attended Dumas High School and the University of Texas at Austin receiving multiple academic honors and forming friendships that lasted throughout her life. Sally brought a little bit of Texas with her when she moved to Colorado with a charm and humor that endeared her to many in her new home.

In Grand Junction, she began a career in education that became her passion. She loved teaching and worked tirelessly for the children she served and was an advocate and a mentor in her role as an educator. Always wanting to better herself, she earned a PH. D in Curriculum Leadership continuing to work in the classroom in many facets. Throughout her career, she was an extraordinary educator to both teachers and children.

She lived in Grand Junction for 35 years before being diagnosed with Cortical Basal Ganglionic Degeneration, a rare brain disease. Even in adversity, she continued to approach life every day ready for the joy it had to offer. Her gracious spirit and sharp sense of humor will be remembered and her loss will be suffered by those who loved her.

A memorial service will be held at Koininia Church located at 730 25 Road ( on November 15, 2014, at 2:00 p.m.
