Catherine Marie Powell, 81, of California, Pa., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014. She was born Monday, Jan. 9, 1933, in Czechoslovakia, a daughter of the late John Michael Mudry and Catherine (Hadbavn) Mudry. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in California. In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Sotak, Anna Golmitz, Helen Tonini, Margaret Sungala, Ethel Carini, and Bernadine Mudry; and three brothers, John, Paul and Michael Mudry. Left to cherish his memory are her husband of 63 years, Bert Powell; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Rae and Edmond Weckoski of Charleroi; two grandsons, Edmond T. Weckoski of Belle Vernon, and Joseph M. Weckoski of Indiana, Pa.; sister, Mildred Bates of El Hambra, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, from 9 to 10 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be said followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church with the Father Michael Zavage as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Catherine passed peacefully in Flo's Personal Care Home where the owners and staff have provided her with a loving and caring environment to live out her last years with dignity.
