Wallace "Wally" A. Hewitt, 81, of Rantoul went to be with his Lord on Thursday evening (Oct. 30, 2014) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

He was born April 25, 1933 in Newton, N.C., a son of James and Jennie (Sigmon) Hewitt. He married Ann Mueller on June 30, 1979 in Rantoul. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Jana (Roy) Barrineau, Timothy (Mary) Hewitt and Arthur (Linda) Hewitt; four stepchildren, Shirley (TJ) Hermann, Charlie Long, Brad (Joyce) Long and Patty (Jimmy) Haguewood; a goddaughter, Lisa (Steve) Pfeiffer; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.

He earned two bachelor's degrees, the last from Southern Illinois University and Jackson College. He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years as a chief warrant officer, serving in hospital administration and serving aboard the USS Boston, USS Haven and the USS Trathen. He spent 32 years as a project manager for food service contractors at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul. He worked at Lincoln's Challenge Academy in Rantoul for 10 years, until he retired in 2004.
