H. William Bottomley, 72, of West Lafayette, died at 9:12 AM Thursday [June 6, 1991] in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, where he had been a patient for one week. Born April 14, 1919, at Minneapolis, MN, he was raised at Winona, MN, but spent most of his adult life in West Lafayette. He married Frances Fisher on Jan. 29, 1944, at Chicago, IL, and she survives.

Mr. Bottomley received a bachelor of science degree in engineering in 1943 from Purdue University. He then served as a captain in the Army Air Corps. He returned to Lafayette in 1946 and joined Duncan Electric Co., now called Landis & Gyr.

A registered professional engineer, he was named Duncan's chief methods engineer in 1952. He was named a director in 1955, vice president in 1966, and president in June 1967. He retired from the metering company in November 1979.

A Sagamore of the Wabash recipient and honorary member of Pi Tau Sigma, Mr. Bottomley was a past member of the board of directors of Lafayette Home Hospital and Lafayette National Bank. He was a member and past deacon of Central Presbyterian Church, a long-time member of the John Purdue Club, Purdue President's Council, and a life member and past director of the Purdue Alumni Association. He also was a member of Tippecanoe County Historical Association.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. James) Dammon of West Lafayette; two sisters, Margaret (Mrs. William) Gebhard of McAllen, TX, and Grace (Mrs. Gerald) Schwartz of Lake City, MN; and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Frederick Bottomley on Feb. 9, 1983.

He was a lieutenant in the armed services at the time of his marriage to Frances Fisher on January 29, 1944, at Chicago, IL; she survives.
