William Lamb, an old and honored citizen of Covington, Fountain County, died last Wednesday. He was born in Massachusetts in 1817, and emigrated to old Fountain in 1836. In 1841 the legislature created the office of County Auditor and Mr. Lamb was elected to the office, being the first Auditor of the county. He was re-elected several times in succession, holding the office for 20 years. After his term as Treasurer expired, he engaged in merchandizing for a few years, when he again went into the Auditor’s office as Deputy. He was buried Friday morning by the Masonic order.
