MORRISTOWN, N.J. Charles Patrick "Bud" Arndt Sr., 80, a resident of Morristown, passed away suddenly on October 29, 2014 at the V.A. Hospital in Lyons, N.J.; his family was at his side. Charles was born in Cohoes, the son of the late John F. Arndt Sr. and Margaret Mary McDonough on October 28, 1934, and was raised in Cohoes. He attended grade school at St. Patrick's in Cohoes, where he first met his wife Phyllis C. Guay. After graduating in 1953 from La Salle Institute in Troy, Charles completed his bachelor's degree from Siena College in Loudonville, class of 1957. While attending Siena, he played on the varsity basketball team and enrolled in their Army ROTC program. Upon graduation, he served as captain in the U.S. Army until 1962 (Third Howitzer Battalion, 41st Artillery). After leaving the Army, he worked for Allstate Insurance for 20 years, owned the Tidewater & Docksider restaurants at the Jersey Shore (for 15 years) and later worked at the Department of Insurance for the State of New Jersey (until his retirement in 2001). He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, a true American patriot, and an avid sports fan. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis; four children, Phyllis Kligman, Charles Jr. and his wife Susan, Deborah Gentile and her husband Joseph and Jeffery Arndt; six grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia Long of Guilderland, Connie Owens of Cohoes and Christine Richardson of Niskayuna; two brothers, John F. Arndt Jr. of Arizona and Terrence Arndt of Missouri, and was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Walsh and Karen Arndt. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014, at Holy Trinity Parish, 122 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends may call at the Stanton-Farrell Funeral Home, 326 Columbia St., Cohoes, on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. His interment will be held at St Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to the Amyloidosis Foundation, 7151 N. Main St., Suite 2, Clarkston, MI 48346, or the Jack Falvo III Foundation at 12 Stonehedge Drive, Gansevort, NY 12831.
