HEADRICK, WILLIAM CARL - went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 30, 2014. He was a godly man whose life's greatest priority was bringing honor and glory to his Lord and Savior. Carl grew up in Wears Valley where he put his trust in the Lord at an early age. He was one of the remaining survivors of the "Greatest Generation" who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served a total of four years, of which three were overseas in Australia, New Guinea, and the South Pacific. Carl then settled down in Gatlinburg where he spent a 30 plus year career working in the Gatlinburg Post Office. Here he made many lifelong friends and drew the respect of the Gatlinburg public. He was one of 29 Charter members of Roaring Fork Baptist Church in Gatlinburg, and was one of the first deacons ordained there. He was a "music man" serving as music director at RFBC for many years. As an original member of the Roaring Fork Quartet he traveled and sang all over the area. Carl was always singing, in trios, duets, solos, and various community choirs. He gave scores of guitar lessons to many of Sevier County's children and youth. When he retired as RFBC music director, he served as Interim music director for many East Tennessee Churches. Carl Headrick was a man of many diverse passions and interests-most important being a "family man" and loving to spend time with his two girls and their families. He valued keeping physically fit and was an avid hiker. He loved his mountains! He was a longtime member of the local hiker's clubs, the American Legion, and the Retired Citizens of Gatlinburg. He cherished many road trips made with his family (traveled in 46 states). He enjoyed gardening and working with the earth, especially loved growing vegetables, fruit trees, and grapes. He was a voracious reader, always ready to discuss his latest book.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, John Bruce and Laura Trotter Headrick; his brothers, Hugh (wife Stella), and Warren (wife Sheila); his sisters, Pauline H. Gilland (husband Commodore), Lucille H. Stephenson (husband Andy) and Ruth H. Tipton (husband Hayes); his father and mother in law, Curtis and Pearl McCarter; his brothers-in-law, Ralph "Tip" Huskey, Elder McCarter, Harmon McCarter, Fred McCarter; and sisters-in-law, Gerry McCarter and Virginia Headrick.

Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Edna McCarter Headrick; his two daughters, MaryAnn (husband Craig) Trentham, and Anita (husband Steven) Vananda. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn Headrick, and sister, Maxine H. Huskey. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Aileen McCarter, Joyce McCarter, Clayton and Freda Watson, June and Al Ogden, and Joel McCarter. His surviving grandchildren include Aaron and Renee Vananda, Tarah Green, Rachel Vananda, Benjamin and Monica Vananda, Nathan and Paula Trentham, Travis and Stacy Trentham, Jennifer (Trentham) and Matt Bridges, and John David and Brittany Trentham. His great grandchildren include Elizabeth, Daniel, and Molly Trentham, Braedon and Rebekah Trentham, McKenna and Laura Bridges, and Julian Maddox Trentham, Joseph William and Lydia Vananda, Audrianna and Gavin Garland, Liam and Avilynn Green, Aaliyah, Ory, and Micah Vananda. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and treasured friends. His family is indebted to the many caregivers who have lovingly taken care of him.

The family will receive friends 4:00 - 5:45 p.m., Sunday, with a celebration of life service to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Roaring Fork Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. John David Trentham, Rev. Kim McCroskey with Dr. Nathan Trentham delivering the eulogy. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Nathan Trentham, Travis Trentham, John David Trentham, Matt Bridges, Aaron Vananda, and Benjamin Vananda. Family and friends will meet 11:00 a.m., Monday, in Mattox Cemetery. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville
