Diane left us far too early after a more than five-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She touched the lives and hearts of so many people over the years. She had an incredible empathy for everyone she met: family members; business associates; neighbors; her UPS driver; sales staff at stores and markets; and a wonderfully large and diverse group of friends from all walks of life.
Diane was born and raised in New York City. She received a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis and a master's degree from Boston University. She ran a drug treatment program in Boston, worked in the General Counsel's office of the State Bar of California and, over the years, provided wide-ranging marketing and consulting services to numerous internet startups. She also volunteered countless hours to Town School for Boys, St. Ignatius College Prep, and the Children's Theater Association where, as a member of the Songbirds, she helped entertain disabled and elderly residents of numerous care facilities in the Bay Area.

Diane was predeceased by her father Leon Kraft and her mother June Kraft Kimmel. She continues to be loved and remembered by her extensive family and friends on the East and West Coasts.

Diane is survived by Philip Ward, her husband of 32 years, their son Colin Ward, and Diane's brother Robert Kraft (Ruth Breslin) and their son Patrick. Diane was especially loved by her many sisters-in-law (the "Outlaws") who unhesitatingly embraced her and made her a true member of the Ward family. She also leaves behind her beloved aunt Selma Kraft and her cousins Hilary and Richard-all of Los Angeles-as well as a host of nieces and nephews in the Bay Area.
Diane introduced her boys to the riches of music, dance, theater, art, and the great culture surrounding us all. Her sense of color, design, fashion, and her general elegance were unsurpassed. And she, in turn, broadened her own horizons, becoming a sophisticated fan of the Giants and 49ers in order to share in the enthusiasms of Phil and Colin. Given only 62 years of life, Diane nevertheless made an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
Until this last battle, Diane overcame so many health challenges over the course of her life. Yet she was always cheerful, helpful, and caring to everyone she met. She will be remembered with great love and fondness.
A service will be conducted at Temple Emanu-El on Tuesday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. Contributions in Diane's memory can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or to a charity of your choice.
