Kenneth Cornish Olinger was born August 5th, 1925 on the family farm near Tekamah, NE. He was the son of Oliver Oscar and Mabel Irene Olinger and was the youngest of four children, Ida Elvira, William Oliver and James Merritt Olinger. Kenneth graduated from Tekamah High School at the age of 16 and spent the next eight years assisting his brothers and parents on the family farms. At the age of 24 he took a position at First National Bank of Tekamah. At 26 he married Gwenlavere Baker, also a descendant of a pioneer farming family from Burt County Nebraska. In 1951 Ken became a national bank examiner for the United States Treasury serving many states and residing in the Washington D.C. area. In 1963 Ken and his family moved to Tulsa, and he became an executive for the First National Bank of Tulsa. He concluded his career by holding the position of president for several banks in the state of Oklahoma. His last banking assignment was working for the RTC involving the inventory and liquidation of savings and loans in Oklahoma and Texas. He retired in 1992. Ken and Gwen enjoyed living the last year and a half at the beautiful Crestwood building at the Oklahoma Methodist Manor. Ken’s hobbies and passions included motorcycle riding and the restoration of Harley Davidsons , BMW’s and Indian Chiefs. He was proud to note that he had crossed over every Colorado pass that could be conquered by 2 wheels somewhat safely. In addition, Ken was a road rally national champion and completed a rally from Disneyland in California to the Statue of Liberty in a 1946 Ford. Ken is survived by his wife of 64 years, three children. Papa was proud of his 5 grandchildren. Visitation will be at Stanley’s Funeral Service, 3959 East 31st Street, Wednesday January 29th from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. Memorial services will be Thursday, January 30th at 2:00 pm in the Rose Chapel, Boston Avenue Methodist Church. The family would like to send our most sincere thanks and appreciation to Josh Longnecker of Saint Francis Hospice. Dad referred to him regularly as the “captain of my team.” We would also like to thank the amazing and caring people of Clarehouse, also known as Heaven on Earth.
Dad thoroughly enjoyed all of their common interests, great adventures, motorcycle rides and early morning breakfast runs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Clarehouse of Tulsa, Oklahoma or Boston Avenue Methodist Church, Missions Fund.
Ken was a wonderful person and will miss his New Years day visits with us, to drink a cup of coffee with what he called a little sweetener, meaning Jack Daniels, in it. We have known him for over 35 and probably closer to 40 years. Ken had a wonderful family and gracious and a beautiful wife.
