O. Ralph Greene of Wilmington, NC, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Lancaster, SC, on November 4, 1926, the son of the late Walter Frank Greene and Inez Mahaffey Greene. His family moved to Charlotte, NC, at an early age where he attended the city schools.

Ralph was a member of College Acres Baptist Church, St. Johns Lodge #1 A.F.&A.M., Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies in Wilmington, Sudan Shrine Temple in New Bern and Goldenrod Chapter #142, O.E.S. Ralph served as Worthy Patron for two terms, was Past Grand Sentinel of the Grand Chapter of NC of Order of Eastern Star, Past District Deputy Grand Patron and chaired and served on many state and local committees for the Eastern Star.

Ralph was retired from Occidental Chemical Co., and had worked for Daniels Const. Co. for many years in the construction of paper mills and pharmaceutical plants throughout the southeast. He was a Certified Master Welder and industrial mechanic and took great pride in training apprentices.

Ralph was active in his church teaching Sunday School and singing in the Choir using his beautiful tenor voice as long as his health permitted. He loved Civil War history and studied and toured many battlefields. He was an avid fresh water fisherman and loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and was beloved by many friends.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Virginia Duke Greene; one son, Alan Duke Greene and wife Carol of Cary, NC; and three grandchildren, Anna Scott, Rachel Harris and Justin Greene; two sisters, Irish Greene Maye and Doris Greene Bryant of Charlotte, NC, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Clayton Greene of Charlotte.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2002, at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., Wilmington, NC, by Rev. Jason Barber. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC, with Masonic rites accorded by Washington Lodge #675 A.F.&A.M.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., Wilmington, NC.

Memorials may be made to the College Acres Baptist Church Music Fund, 702 Eastwood Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403 or the charity of one's choice.
