Kent graduated from Northern High School in 1982 and was a graduate of Appalachian State University. Most of his working career was spent at Duke University Medical Center as an IT Specialist.
Throughout his youth he was active in the Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. From his early love of the outdoors, he became an avid cyclist, joining several bicycling clubs, and racing competitively. Kent enjoyed rock and mountain climbing, skiing, tennis and traveling. From all his activities, he has collected a diverse group of friends who will miss him greatly.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Elizabeth “Liz” Winberry and nephew, Mikey Mangum; and his beloved cat, Gato.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, 2:00 p.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
