Biography of Sapper Robert Inglis Lothian

Robert Inglis “Bob” Lothian was born to William and Annie Isabella (Millitan) Lothian on January 12, 1889 in Pipestone, Manitoba, Canada.

He attended Manatoba College and graduated in 1907 with an electrical engineering degree. Bob played on Manatoba College’s football team and was an accomplished musician and soloist.

Prior to the First World War, he worked for the Canadian Westing House Electrical Company in Fort William, Ontario.

On December 15, 1915, Bob enlisted in the Canadian Army and was assigned to the 8th Field Company, Canadian Engineers. Shortly after arriving in the trenches, he was killed in action on April 4, 1916. He was the first person from Pipestone killed during World War I.
