James Brownlee Jr. living in Taylorstown, a spot in the road near Washington, Pennsylvania was a Justice of the Peace. In late 1700's and early 1800's it meant serving in a quasi-legal manner. He is also reputed to run a hostelry, a stopping point on the National or Cumberland Road (1805).
It was very common for church congregations to settle in one place, moving westward as a group. Pioneers seem to go to church communities where they knew people. In time, James Jr. followed his daughters, Jane and Abraham Ritner, Ann and Abraham McKinney to Monmouth, Illinois area. He settled with Eleanor and his new family just across the Warren county line in Mercer county, near Aledo, Illinois. Here in the County Courthouse in Box 27 are his estate papers. In Aledo he again works as a Justice of the Peace and at the time of his death people owed him $2,223, a great deal of money in 1850. Ironically he died intestate. By 13 December 1850, his death date, both daughters, Ann and Jane were dead.

In the weeds of the abandoned Brownlee cemetery (now a tended plot of prairie grass) on a county road, a stone was found lying on the ground with the name broken off but with his death date.
