It is with deep regret that I have to enter my mother's obituary here. I wrote it just hours before she passed away. She died of kidney failure and congestive heart failure. I took her home to her house--it was her wish, and mine, for her to pass away in her own home. I wrote her obituary the morning of her death in the present tense--I could not bring myself to use the past tense with her still living. Since her funeral was on Monday, the day before the local paper came out, her printed obituary has some words in the past tense. Peggy Sue

TX, one sister Dorothy Elizabeth Steelman of Fayetteville, TN and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Danny Dodson, Michael Dodson, Jerry Steelman, Jerry Williams, Glenn Fly and Randy Miller.

She retired not on the 17th of March as the paper had in the obit but on the 14th of March, her 62nd birthday. She had told me she wanted one song at her funeral that contained the words "Just hold my hand". I knew that I wanted three of the guys at church to sing at her funeral. In hearing the words the preacher thought it was one song and another guy thought it was another one. One said "Why don't we sing both?" An alto was needed so the sister of one of the guys sang with them. There was no recorded music at my mother's funeral. The music consisted of just those two songs with one song at the beginning and the other at the end of her funeral. The harmony was beautiful and I had lots of compliments on the singing. She was not only my mother but my very best friend and confidant.

To Those Whom I Love and Those Who Love Me
When I am gone, release me, let me go;
I have so many things to see and do
You must not tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that I have had so many years
I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness
I thank you for the love you have shown
But now it is time I traveled on alone
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must;
Then let your grief be comforted by trust
It is only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories in your heart
I will not be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can not see or touch me, I will be near
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear
All of my love around you soft and clear
Then when you must come this way alone
I'll greet you with a hug and smile and welcome you home.
