Everett R Payne Sr was born on March 29, 1926 in Marshall, Madison County, North Carolina, the son of Zachariah Franklin "Zack" Payne (1882–1959) and Lillie Mae (Lunsford) Payne (1886–1937).

He was married to Alice Clara Deault (1930–2013), the daughter of Harvey A Deault (1903–1975) and Clara "Delvina" (Derouin) Deault (1906– ).

Retired from the US Postal Service, Everett was also retired from the military with service in both the US Navy and US Army, which included a tour during World War II.

He was 88 years old and a resident of Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee when he passed away on October 26, 2014 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, he was survived by two married sons, a daughter, six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West in Hopkinsville with full Military Honors.
