Ellen Joan James, 82, passed away on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Ellen was the daughter of the late Silas Alvin and Sara Luellen Rolls of Punxsutawney. She was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School and Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Willoughby, Ohio, a former elementary school teacher and the retired owner of Barbre Nursery Schools in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
In addition to devoting her career to teaching and caring for children, she made numerous donations of her hair to the Locks of Love organization to help children with medical conditions.
Ellen was a creative person and talented artist who enjoyed painting, charcoal drawing and any type of arts and crafts. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, William James III, Annie (Douglas) Rohde and David (Diane) James; grandchildren Sara, Andrew and Emily James and Natalie and William Yoel; brothers James (Barbara) Rolls, Eugene (Gail) Rolls, John (Priscilla) Rolls and Richard (Jean) Rolls; sister Janet (Culver) Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, 301 West Mahoning St. in Punxsutawney. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church, with Rev. Paul Ritchey officiating.
Interment will follow in Union Hill Cemetery in Rossiter.
