Husband of Rebecca Cunningham/Hanna

According to the research of James Herman "Jim" Hanna, John Hanna was most likely born in Ireland possibly of Scottish descent and immigrated to America about 1794. Records indicate he applied for citizenship May 27, 1796 in the district of Pennsylvania. He possibly married Rebecca Cunningham of Pennsylvania in 1796 when she was 19 since the first son was born in 1797 or 98. They moved to Kentucky where other children were born, and by 1813 they were in Campbell Co., TN. (near the Cumberland Gap), for the birth of Thomas.

The following is an excerpt from the "History of Hardin County" pg.21. "In the year 1820 John Hanna, with his wife--Rebecca--and their nine children, seven sons (William, James, John, David, Alexander, Hugh, and Thomas) and two daughters (Hannah and Elizabeth) left Union County, Tennessee, came down the river in a flatboat, and landed at what is now Cerro Gordo in the month of March. They then moved out from the river and settled between Indian Creek and Smith's Fork where they apparently occupied the 149 acre tract. However, John Hanna died in 1847 before the land grant was officially made to his widow in 1850."
