Wayne F. Stuart, 82, of 972 Almond Road, passed away Wednesday (March 3, 2010) at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Canisteo, April 24, 1927, the son of Ervy and Grace Schoonover Stuart, he was a lifelong area resident. Wayne had served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, and retired from the Erie, Erie Lackawanna, and Conrail railroad as an engineer in 1990. He was a member of the Hornellsville Lodge #44 F & AM, the Hornell Elks, the Hornell American Legion, and a charter member of the Almond Lions Club, where he received the prestigious Melvin Jones Award, and was Lion of the year in 1994, Wayne also enjoyed hunting, and fishing.

He was predeceased by his parents, and 2 brothers Ervy Stuart Jr, and Ernest “Jake” Stuart.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn Recktenwald Stuart whom he married May 29, 1954, a daughter Nancy (Clair) Mallory of Almond, 3 sons Richard (Pamela) Stuart of Almond, Robert Stuart of Almond, and Thomas Stuart of Almond, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews.

The family will be present 4-7 PM Friday, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, where a Masonic Service will be at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery, Fremont.
