Lorraine G. Ritland, age 87, of Whitehall, died peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, July 2, 2015 in the Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall.

Lorraine was born on February 4, 1928 in Black River Falls to Ludwig and Hazel (Johnson) Gilbertson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls. Lorraine graduated from the Black River Falls High School and St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.

Lorraine married Clifford J. Ritland on August 27, 1949 in Black River Falls. Clifford preceded Lorraine in death on May 9, 1975.

Lorraine and Clifford lived in Minneapolis, MN while Clifford was attending the seminary. They later moved to Pekin, ND where Clifford served three churches. They moved to Eau Claire where Clifford served Hope Lutheran Church. Finally they moved to Whitehall in 1965.

Lorraine taught school in Pleasantville and Whitehall. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and was active in its various organizations. She played the organ for services and the church choir. Lorraine was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Lorraine is survived by five children, John Ritland of West Allis, Jim (Sue) Ritland of Black River Falls, Tom (Diane) Ritland of Quechee, VT, David (Allen Howe) Ritland of Palm Springs, CA and Nancy (Dan) Hegrenes of Peachtree City, GA; seven grandchildren, Mona (Mark) Rose, Nathan (Kristi) Knight, Bobbi (Jeff) Sevier, Christopher and Karen Ritland, Marissa and Jacob Hegrenes; nine great-grandchildren, Bryce, Kyle, Joel, Tiffany, Gunner, Walker, Bailey, Austin and Morgan; two sisters, Mary Kent and Helen Kunes.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by a brother, Larry.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor Yvonne Marshall will officiate.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be designated to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
