Sgt. Wilkerson of Kansas City, Missouri lived most of his life in Columbus, Ga., where he went through elementary and high school. He loved sports, and especially enjoyed playing soccer. After high school he served a mission to Uruguay for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his mission he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1998. He served on a number of bases throughout the U.S. In 2004, he transferred to the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colo. He was sent with his unit to Iraq in March 2005. He had transferred from the Marine Corps to the Army in part to be closer to his two young children in Colorado. Survivors include his wife, Whitney of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Colin and Acelin; three daughters, Miriam, Amelia and Sophie; his parents, Tomas Wilkerson of Phoenix City, Ala., and Tomasa Goodwin of Columbus, Ga.; three brothers, Jose, Roberto "Bobby" and Gene Wilkerson; and two sisters, Kathy Hernandez and Sandra Wilkerson. He was 30.
