MOTHER OF CALVIN KAIN, COUNTY SURVEYOR. DIES
Mrs MARY J KAIN had been in Poor Health for a Number of Years

Mrs MARY J KAIN, the mother of Calvin Kain of Auburn, surveyor of DeKalb County, died at her home three miles east of St Joe Friday evening at 6 o'clock after an illness from complication of diseases. The past four weeks Mrs Rain had failed rapidly. Several years ago she suffered several strokes of apoplexy and although in poor health she was able to attend to her household duties until her last sickness.

Mrs Rain was the first of a large family, with the exception of one who died in infancy, to break the family circle. By a peculiar coincidence until her death there were nine living brothers and sisters, nine living children and nine grandchildren.

She was born at Cecil Ohio 62 years ago where she was united in marriage to JS Kain. The young married couple came to DeKalb county forty years ago and located near Summit and for the past thirty years they resided on the farm near St Joe.

She was the mother of a large family of children, eleven in all, nine of whom are living. They are as follows: Mrs Stella Young of Washington DC; Everett M Rain and Mrs Grace Robertson of Hicksville Ohio; Mrs Gladys Treesh of Garrett; Forrest M and Russel W Kain of Fort Wayne; Mrs Blen Moore of St Joe; Dwight R Kain residing with his parents, and Calvin Kain of Auburn.

Besides these there survive the following brothers and sisters, George Zedaker of New Haven, John and Edwin Zedaker of Sandusky Ohio, Thomas Zedaker of Toledo Ohio, Todd Zedaker of Cecil Ohio, Mrs Alice Ferguson and Mrs Harriett Scesaler of Kalamazoo Michigan and Mrs Julia Kettering of Defiance Ohio; and nine grandchildren. The husband also survives.

Mrs Kain was a member of the United Brethren church of Newville where the funeral service was conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev JW Lilly of Hicksville Ohio in charge. Burial was made in the cemetery at Newville.
