OBITUARY Iron County Reporter Feb 5 2003 "Obituaries: Donald Cunningham"
IRON RIVER - Donald Cunningham, 89, died Jan. 29 at the Iron County General Hospital.
He was born Dec. 10, 1913 in Wausaukee, Wis., the son of the late Edson and Katherine "Mayme" (Davis) Cunningham. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the liberation of the Philippines and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Following his honorable discharge he married the former Bernice Johnson in June of 1947 and the couple made their home in the local area. He had been employed by the U.S. Forest Service and later worked for Burby Brooks of Long Lake, Wis. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and his hobbies included fishing and picking berries. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Basil, Red and Perry; and three sisters, Delores Hoag, Lorraine Chaney and Bethel Kniess.
He is survived by his wife of the Iron River Care Center; a brother Keith of Coer d'Alene, Id.; three sisters, Verla (Jack) Lafferty of Newald, Wis., Rosemary Preston of North Chicago, Ill. and Dawn (Willard) Kniess of Iron River; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and funeral services were held Feb. 5 at the Langenberg Funeral Home - Stambaugh Chapel with James Wilson of the Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. Members of the West Side Veteran Council accorded military rites at the funeral service.
