d/o Jesse Monroe & Harriet Parker-both born in Vermont & died in Eagle, Clinton, Michigan-unable to locate

James Turner arrived in Washtenaw County as a teenager with his family; Marian Munroe came at 18 with her family, settling in Clinton County and later finding work as a teacher in Mason. James and Marian married in 1843.

Marian 24y married James 23y on October 31, 1843 in Eagle, Clinton, Michigan.

Although James Turner was a businessman in Mason, they made plans to move to a piece of property in the unsettled township to the north — the spot on the Grand River where Turner-Dodge House stands today.

Politically progressive, James and Marian Turner joined with other Whigs and Democrats to found the Republican Party with the goal of ending slavery.

From this union these known children were born:
Harriet 1845-1860
Marion Reasoner 1846-1918
James M. 1850-1896
Adda (Addie) 1852-1884
Jennie 1855-
Eva 1857-
Anna 1860-1860
Abigail(Abbey)R. 1864-1947
Jesse 1864-1875

Newspapers of the time report Mrs. Turner was a supporter of the hospital maintained by women; membership in history-related societies; social events; and personal notes.
