SPRINGDALE - Sylvia R. Long died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. She was born in Calhoun County on September 10, 1933 to the late S. Dantzler Rucker and Jessie Brady Rucker. She was a faithful member of West Columbia First Church of the Nazarene for over 40 years along with her husband, P.J. Long. After graduating from Swansea High School, she began her 25 year career with Southern Bell. Affectionately known as "Gram" or "Mama", she was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at West Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, 350 Wattling Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Reverend Bill Harmon will officiate. Interment will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, P.J. Long; and three brothers, Edward, Joseph and Legree Rucker. She is survived by her sons, Rex (Linda) Long of West Columbia and William "Bubba" (Renee) Long of Springdale; grandsons, Patrick (Amanda) Long and Bryant Long; granddaughter, Robin Donohue; and great-granddaughters, Lindsay Donohue and Morgan Moreno all of Tampa, Florida; and sister, Terry (Melvin) Gleaton of South Congaree.
Sylvia will be missed greatly by her loving family and her many friends, especially her best friend, Doris Brown.
