The first of the Hilleary family in the new world was Thomas Hilleary, Planter, who was born in England in 1620, the son of Chamberland Hilleary and came to the Province of Maryland in 1661. In 1663 he patented 1,050 acres of land called Three Sisters in what was Calvert, now Prince George's County near the present town of Hyattsville.
Thomas Hilleary was High Sheriff of Prince George's Co., 1696. This was a responsible office and one of great distinction in Colonial days. The name of his first wife was Eleanor, last name unknown; he married (2) in 1684, Eleanor, daughter of Capt. Thomas Sprigg and Eleanor Nuthall, Eleanor Nuthall the daughter of John Nuthall and Elizabeth Bacon of St. Mary's County.

Thomas Hilleary died 1728, his will proven Feb 14, 1728. His wife, Eleanor, acted as executrix.

William Hilleary born 1717, married abt 1738, Margaret Crabb, the daughter of Ralph Crabb and Priscilla Sprigg, his wife. Margaret was born Aug 12, 1720. William Hilleary was of Prince George and Frederick Counties, Md, a planter, and large slave holder. William Hilleary and Margaret had seven children:
