PITTSFIELD -- Edward L. Belanger, 86, of 74 A Highview Drive died yesterday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where he had resided for two weeks.

Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 27, 1914, son of Wilfred and Louise Lajeunesse Belanger, he was educated in local schools. A former longtime resident of the town of Washington, he also resided in Lanesboro at one time. He moved to Pittsfield three years ago.

Mr. Belanger was employed as a maintenance man for U.S. Gypsum in Farnams for 23 years and for GE for 10 years, retiring in 1980. After his retirement, he was a maintenance man for Berkshire Hills Country Club for six years.

He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and a member of the GE Pensioners' Club. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf.

He and his wife, the former Marie Bianchi, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary April 15.

(Living family names omitted here). A son, former Baltimore Orioles shortstop Mark H. Belanger, died Oct. 6, 1998.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Mr. Edward L. Belanger, 86, of Pittsfield who died July 15, 2001, will be Tuesday at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Notre Dame Church celebrated by the Rev. Earl Hebert, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 at funeral home. Mr. Belanger was predeceased by a son, Mark H. Belanger, who died Oct. 6, 1998; a grandson, Shaun M. Thornton, who died April 27, 1993, and a brother, Herman Belanger. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Notre Dame Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
